Sejak 2014, KOMBO telah menjadi wadah efektif, terbuka dan fleksibel untuk musik improvisasi yang sepenuhnya bebas dari kerangka apapun yang membatasi, baik dalam jenis musik, kriteria penampil, venue, hingga struktur pengorganisasiannya. 

Kini untuk pertama kalinya, KOMBO akan menggelar sebuah festival musik improvisasi di pada tanggal 14 Januari – 4 Februari 2023. Pertunjukan akan digelar di berbagai lokasi di Yogyakarta dengan ‘kurator’ line-up yang berbeda setiap sesinya. Juga akan ada lokakarya dan presentasi di hari-hari tertentu. 

Festival ini akan digelar sepenuhnya secara mandiri dan tidak menerima sponsor demi menjaga semangat improvisasi yang berarti harus cermat menyiasati situasi.

Pembiayaan akan ditempuh dengan membuka peluang bagi siapapun untuk berkontribusi dan berpartisipasi, baik dalam bentuk materi, peralatan/perlengkapan, skill, tenaga, atau jejaring. Seluruh aktivitas dan pembukuan akan tercatat secara transparan melalui shared drive yang dapat diakses oleh siapapun atas permintaan.

Album musik “Kombo Excerpts Vol. 001”

Kombo Excerpts adalah album kompilasi potongan-potongan audio yang direkam dari sesi-sesi Kombo. Volume pertama diambil dari rekaman lima sesi Kombo 2017-2019. Album kompilasi ini juga merupakan rilisan pertama divisi label dan publikasi yang diberi nama Kombolab, sekaligus menjadi medium penggalangan dana untuk menggelar Festival Kombo 2023. Album ini bisa diakses di kombolab.bandcamp.com atau melalui situs web thestorefront.

Sebagai upaya penghimpunan dana, di setiap helatan akan ada live sablon “Kombo Festival” oleh tutbek dengan desain ilustrasi oleh Alam Rafif Alfa. Pratayang desain dengan warna lain bisa diakses di sini.

Untuk itu, pada setiap perhelatan Kombo Festival, kami akan menyediakan lapak khusus bagi Anda yang ingin secara langsung membagikan arsip Kombo Festival yang baru saja Anda ciptakan atau bisa saja arsip-arsip sesi Kombo terdahulu yang pernah Anda miliki. Sebaliknya, kami juga akan membuka kepada Anda untuk mengkopi beberapa bagian dari arsip kami untuk Anda simpan dan bagikan ulang.

Silakan bawa perangkat penyimpanan atau berbagi data yang Anda miliki langsung ke tempat penyelenggaraan acara untuk terlibat dalam pertukaran ini.

Since 2014, KOMBO has been an effective, open and flexible platform for improvised music that is completely free from any restrictive frameworks, in terms of musical genres, performance criteria, venue, and organizational structure.

Now for the first time, KOMBO will host an improv music festival on 14 January – 4 February 2023. The festival will be held at various locations in Yogyakarta with different line-up ‘curators’ for each session. There will also be workshops and presentations on certain days. 

The festival will be entirely independent and will not accept sponsors in order to maintain the spirit of improvisation, which means being adaptive and flexible in dealing with any given situation.

Financing will be pursued by opening up opportunities for anyone to contribute and participate, whether in the form of materials, equipment/equipment, skills, personnel, or networks. All activities and bookkeeping will be recorded transparently through a shared drive which can be accessed by anyone upon request.

“Kombo Excerpts Vol. 001”

Kombo Excerpts is a compilation album of audio pieces recorded from the Kombo sessions. The first volume is taken from the recording of five Kombo sessions between 2017-2019. This compilation is also the first ever release by the label and publication body of Kombolab, and serves as a fundraising medium for the 2023 Kombo Festival. For now you can purchase the album via kombolab.bandcamp.com.

As an effort to raise funds, at every event there will be a live screen printing of “Kombo Festival” by tutbek with an illustration designed by Alam Rafif Alfa. Preview of merch design with other color variant can be accessed here.

Open Archive Initiative

We believe in collective work. We believe in a culture of sharing. We believe in openness.

We believe these three things can make collaboration a stronger tool for sustainability.

For this reason, at every Kombo Festival event, we will provide a special booth for those of you who want to directly share the Kombo Festival archives that you just created, or it could also be archives of previous Kombo sessions that you have had. Other than that, we will also open up to you to copy portions of our archives for your preservation and re-sharing.

Please bring your storage or data sharing device directly to the event venue to engage in this exchange.

We will also prepare remote data sharing infrastructure. For now, you can correspond with us via kombofest@gmail.com regarding remote archive sharing.
